Check you're eligible on KDP
Virtual voice is an invite-only beta. If your ebook qualifies, "Add Audible audiobook with virtual voice" appears on your Bookshelf. Distribution is US only, and the primary language must be English, Spanish, Italian or French.

Fix the ebook first
KDP requires a Kindle interactive (NCX) table of contents, chapter titles as text, footnotes as superscripts, and a proofread manuscript.

Create the audiobook and pick a voice
From your Bookshelf, select Add Audible audiobook with virtual voice, choose a voice (or accept the default) and enter a list price between $3.99 and $14.99.

Proof it in the Virtual Voice Studio
Select Open Virtual Voice Studio to preview and edit, then Return to audiobook setup and Publish audiobook. Going live can take up to 72 hours, and both formats are locked for editing until then.

Or create it on Google Play Books
In Partner Center, open the Book Catalog, click Add a Book, then Create an auto-narrated audiobook. Select a live EPUB ebook, choose an ISBN/EAN or a Google book ID (GGKEY), and click Save and continue.

Follow Google's pricing rule if you sell elsewhere
You can download a Google auto-narrated audiobook and sell it elsewhere, but it must also be on sale on Google Play in those countries, at a price no higher than elsewhere.

Declare AI-generated content to KDP
KDP requires you to tell it about AI-generated text, images or translations when you publish. AI-assisted editing doesn't need declaring.

Common mistakes
- Publishing without listening to the whole book. Names, numbers and abbreviations are where virtual voices slip.
- Skipping KDP's AI-content question.
- Assuming every book qualifies. KDP decides which ebooks it accepts into the beta.
Rights and terms check
You must own the audiobook rights to the text; Google's policy says so explicitly. KDP pays a 40% royalty on virtual-voice à la carte sales (KDP Help).
