Step by step

3 of 4 steps are checked against official docs, 1 is our advice. Menu names are quoted from the linked docs as of the date shown; apps change, so follow the doc if what you see differs.

  1. Dub audio in ElevenLabs

Upload the video or audio, or use the Paste URL tab for YouTube, TikTok and others. Choose target languages, adjust Speaker similarity and generate; you see the cost and confirm first.

  2. Or translate with lip-sync in HeyGen

Import an MP4, MOV or WEBM file up to 5 GB, or paste a YouTube or Google Drive link. Pick the source language (one per video), up to 10 target languages and the engine, then Translate.

  3. Translate captions and documents

DeepL translates many file formats; without a subscription, translated files aren't editable.

  4. Have a fluent speaker review it

Machine dubbing gets idioms, names and numbers wrong. Budget a native review per language.

Our advice. No specific menus involved.

Common mistakes

  • Dubbing videos with more than one spoken language; HeyGen says that fails or gives a bad transcript.
  • Delivering without native review.
  • Using a free plan for client work.

Rights and terms check

You need the video owner's permission and the speaker's consent to clone their voice. ElevenLabs' and HeyGen's free plans are non-commercial; see the rights matrix.
