Free plan in real output

10 minutes of video creation or dubbing a month, 3 survey responses and 500 credits. Videos carry a Synthesia watermark. Video costs 100 credits per minute after the first 10 included minutes.

  • Free: 10 minutes of watermarked video a month. That works for drafts and internal demos, but the logo makes it unsuitable for client delivery.
  • Starter: 1,250 credits ÷ 100 credits per minute ≈ 12 extra minutes plus the 10 free minutes ≈ 22 minutes a month.
  • Pro: 6,000 ÷ 100 = 60 extra minutes + 10 = about 70 minutes a month, about one short course.

Cost at your stage

PlanMonthly cost
Month 1 (testing, low volume)Basic (free)$0
Month 12 (working volume)Starter$29

Break-even: Starter at $29/mo is covered by one course sale of $29 or more a month.

Month-12 plan is our estimate of what a solo seller at steady weekly output needs, based on the plan limits above. Costs exclude tax.

Hidden costs and gotchas

  • Free videos carry the Synthesia logo; you have to pay to remove it.
  • Dubbing uses the same credits as video (76 credits per minute).
  • Learner seats cost $29 per learner per month for the roleplay and course features.

First-hour setup

  1. Create a free account and make one 1-minute draft.
  2. Paste your script into a template and pick an avatar and voice.
  3. Add slides or screen recordings as backgrounds.
  4. Upgrade to Starter to download without the logo.
  5. Check pronunciation and on-screen text before you share it.

Head to head: Synthesia vs HeyGen

Learning difficulty

2/5: Slide-like editor; easy, but good pacing takes practice.

When not to use it

Not for social content that needs to feel personal. For quick social avatars, HeyGen is cheaper per short video.

Cheaper or free alternatives:

  • HeyGen: Presenter videos and translated versions without filming (yes free plan)
  • Colossyan: Interactive training videos (trial only free plan)
  • D-ID: Animating a still portrait (trial only free plan)
